This is an absolute surprise coup! Maja Chwalinska, the sensational Polish finalist at the French Open in Paris, will serve at the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open at Rothenbaum from 19 to 26 July 2026, bringing Grand Slam flair to the Hanseatic city!
Chwalinska achieved a historic success in the French capital. As the first player in tennis history, she battled her way from qualifying to the final in Paris with nine victories, only to be beaten there by Mirra Andreeva. »I feel like I'm in a bubble. I don't know what's going on. I'm just so happy to be here,“ said the Pole, who formed a successful doubles partnership with Iga Swiatek in her youth, in Paris. The 24-year-old shone on her way to her first Grand Slam final with her creative play, surprising drop-shot/lob combinations, and immense mental strength, celebrating the greatest success of her career, during which she had to overcome so many setbacks.
Chwalinska, who climbed to 21st in the world rankings, won the hearts of French tennis fans and now intends to cause a stir in Hamburg with her unique style: „Reaching the final at Roland Garros was an incredible experience and a very special moment in my career. I'm thrilled to be able to continue the season on my favourite surface in Hamburg. It's a tournament with a great tradition, and I've heard so many good things about it. I'm very curious to see the city for the first time and to play in front of the fantastic fans in Hamburg,“ says Chwalinska full of anticipation for her debut appearance at the Rothenbaum.
Tournament director Sandra Reichel spoke with Chwalinska immediately after her dream run and was absolutely delighted with the short-notice commitment: „To be able to welcome a current Grand Slam finalist to our tournament is an absolute honour. I'm proud that Maja will be playing with us. She had the tournament of her life in Paris and, with her unmistakable style, will also be a crowd favourite in Hamburg,“ said Reichel about signing Chwalinska.
