Hamburg European Open Men’s Main Draw Is Set

Six players have earned a spot in the main draw of the Hamburg European Open men’s event. Top seed Carlos Taberner from Spain rallied from a set down to overcome Daniel Masur of Germany on Sunday afternoon 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 after two hours and 43 minutes.

The World No. 113 from Valencia will make his second appearance in a main draw on the ATP Tour this season after Madrid, taking on his compatriot Feliciano Lopez in the first round.

Second seed Thiago Seyboth Wild from Brazil defeated Steven Diez from Canada 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 29 and will open his main draw campaign against Spanish wild card entry Nicola Kuhn.

Zhizhen Zhang of China edged past Sumit Nagal of India 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 10 minutes to meet Argentine Federico Delbonis.

Alex Molcan of Slovakia battled his way into the main draw following a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Australian Christopher O’Connell and will next face Italy’s Gianluca Mager.

Juan Pablo Varillas of Peru won the all-South-American encounter with Sebastian Baez of Argentina 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(0) to play lucky loser Nagal. Baez was also placed as a lucky loser and will take on Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

Maximilian Marterer of Germany needed two hours and 11 minutes to fight past No. 11 seeded Italian Alessandro Giannessi 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. The 26-year-old will oppose fellow German Dominik Koepfer. The winner of this match will play the tournament’s No. 1 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round.
