Two Northern Lights for Hamburg: Tamara Korpatsch & Noma Noha Akugue play at Rothenbaum

Well before the deadline for entries for the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open professional women's tennis tournament, which will be held from July 19th to 26th, 2026, at Hamburg's Rothenbaum, the two Hamburg players, Tamara Korpatsch and Noma Noha Akugue, have confirmed their participation in the WTA 250 tournament. The duo is already eagerly anticipating their appearance at their home tournament.

The 31-year-old Tamara Korpatsch (WTA 79) has not only fought her way back into the top 100 recently but also achieved her best Grand Slam result to date by reaching the 3rd round of the French Open at Roland Garros. Last year, the extremely tenacious German number three played an epic match against the eventual tournament winner Lois Boisson in the round of 16, where she narrowly lost after three hours, plagued by cramps – a match that Korpatsch still remembers today: „I'll be in Hamburg, of course, no question! I can hardly wait to play at home again. Hopefully without cramps this year, though.“

Similar to Korpatsch, Noma Noha Akugue (WTA 154) is also enjoying a strong 2026 season. The player from Reinbek, who surprisingly reached the final at the Rothenbaum in 2023, has already celebrated three tournament victories at Future tournaments in Altenkirchen, Helsinki, and Wiesbaden. The 22-year-old is thus on the verge of setting a new career best in the world rankings. „I'm really looking forward to playing.

„With Tamara and Noma not only will two Hamburg residents be competing at the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open, but both have also developed wonderfully and have already celebrated great successes this year. We naturally hope that they will carry this momentum to the Rothenbaum and once again generate great enthusiasm. Tamara played one of the most spectacular matches in the tournament's history against Lois Boisson last year, and Noma's run to the final in 2023 is unforgettable anyway,“ says tournament director Sandra Reichel, also looking forward to the home match of the two Northerners.
