World-class field of competitors at the Hamburg Wheelchair Open

The world elite of wheelchair tennis stars will meet at Hamburg's Rothenbaum from 23 to 26 July 2026! The premiere of the Hamburg Wheelchair Open, Germany's largest women's wheelchair tennis tournament, which will be integrated into the WTA tournament MSC Hamburg Ladies Open (19 to 26 July 2026), can boast an outstanding field of participants. The entry list, which has now been published, is truly impressive.

A total of eleven female players have directly qualified for the Hamburg Wheelchair Open based on their world rankings – all of them are among the top 30 in the world. Leading the entry list is former world number one Aniek van Koot from the Netherlands, who has collected a total of 27 Grand Slam titles in singles and doubles. At the Paralympics, she won two gold medals, four silvers, and one bronze.

Another highlight is the participation of the 20-year-old Frenchwoman Ksenia Chasteau, who reached the final at her home Grand Slam in Roland Garros in June. Also directly qualified is German champion Britta Wend, who is currently ranked 26th in the World Tennis rankings. A wildcard goes to Wend's national teammate Katharina Krüger from Berlin, who has participated in the Paralympics a total of five times. This presents a great opportunity for Wend & Krüger to compete against the best wheelchair tennis players in the world in front of a home crowd.

„The integration of the Hamburg Wheelchair Open into the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open is a milestone for our tournament and a strong signal for lived inclusion in elite sports. The fact that wheelchair tennis and WTA tennis are taking place on the same stage and are collectively part of a major international tennis event creates a visibility that this sport deserves,“ says Tournament Director Sandra Reichel.

„This is by far the most competitive women's wheelchair tennis field Germany has ever seen. Alongside former world number one Aniek van Koot, other Grand Slam champions and top players from around the world will be competing. The athletic level will be outstanding – we can look forward to a great tournament,“ enthuses Niklas Höfken, sports director of the Hamburg Wheelchair Open, about the high quality of players who have confirmed their participation. In addition to the singles competition, there will also be a doubles competition with six pairings.

The Hamburg Wheelchair Open is supported by Airbus Hamburg.
„It is the interplay of self-determination, diversity and respect that constitutes true inclusion. Together with the Hamburg Wheelchair Open and our new ‚U Suite‘ – which allows passengers to travel in their own wheelchairs for the first time – we are taking this idea to a new level. We are demonstrating that when social dialogue and technological accessibility go hand in hand, barrier-free participation on the court and above the clouds becomes a lived reality,“ explains Nawina Walker, Site Manager Airbus Hamburg.
