The professional women's tennis tournament MSC Hamburg Ladies Open (19th to 26th July 2026) is heading into the competition with an extremely balanced and diverse field of participants. Topping the entry list for the WTA 250 tournament, which has now been published by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), is French Open surprise finalist Maja Chwalinska. The Pole committed to starting in Hamburg at an early stage.
As the only German, local favourite Tamara Korpatsch, who was plagued by cramps last year and lost in a dramatic match to eventual tournament winner Lois Boisson, has directly qualified for the main draw.
Also starting are two former tournament winners: Hungary's Anna Bondar won the tournament in 2024 in both singles and doubles. Last year, she was once again in the final at one of her favourite tournaments. In the summer of 2021, Elena-Gabriela Ruse claimed the title on the return of women's tennis at the Rothenbaum, winning the final against today's tournament ambassador Andrea Petkovic – the Romanian is now returning to the place where she won her first WTA title. Incidentally, „Petko“ won against Yulia Putintseva in the semi-final back then, and the Kazakh will also be competing again at the Rothenbaum in a few weeks. Austria's number three, Sinja Kraus from Vienna, is coming to Hamburg.
The coveted nature of the main draw places in Hamburg is demonstrated by the fact that former top-ten player Paula Badosa, last year's winner Lois Boisson, and also Tatjana Maria, the German Wimbledon semi-finalist from 2022, would have to compete in qualifying at this point.
„We are expecting a very exciting battle for the title. With Maja Chwalinska, we have succeeded in bringing one of this summer's rising stars to Hamburg. However, she will face stiff competition for the tournament victory, as we have an incredibly high level of performance in the field. The fans can look forward to absolute top-class tennis with some familiar, but also many new faces,“ says tournament director Sandra Reichel.
