MSC Hamburg Ladies Open with international stars and German elite

Hamburg's Rothenbaum will be the meeting place for the international stars of women's tennis, such as Berlin finalist Xinyu Wang, and the best German players at the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open from 13 to 20 July 2025. With Eva Lys, Tatjana Maria, Ella Seidel and Laura Siegemund, four local heroes alone have qualified directly for the WTA tournament. As more Germans will be added via wildcards still to be awarded, the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open is already the German WTA tournament with the most local players in the main draw.

China's Xinyu Wang is at the top of the entry list for the clay court classic. The confirmation for the appearance in the metropolis on the Elbe comes immediately after the 23-year-old reached her first WTA singles final in Berlin. On the way there, she also defeated the reigning French Open winner Coco Gauff - that's as good as it gets! Wang is undoubtedly one of the most up-and-coming players on the tour! "I'm really looking forward to coming back to Germany and playing in Hamburg after reaching the final in Berlin. I've heard so many great things about the wonderful city and the tournament," says Wang, who is currently ranked 33rd in the world.

Also confirmed alongside the Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (WTA 34), who will be playing in Hamburg for the third time, also Dayana Yastremska (WTA 42). Like Wang, the Ukrainian, who reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2024, is in excellent form and reached the final of the grass court tournament in Nottingham last week. At the beginning of February, the aggressive baseline player reached the final of the WTA 500 Upper Austria Ladies Linz tournament, also organised by Sandra Reichel. "Reaching the semi-finals in Hamburg 2021 was a really special moment for me. I love Hamburg and the whole atmosphere. I can't wait to return to this incredible centre court," says Yastremska full of euphoria.

"Xinyu Wang and Dayana Yastremska are in real top form and will certainly be among the favourites going into the tournament. I was particularly impressed by Wang's performances in Berlin. I've known Dayana for several years. She has been loyal to our tournaments for a long time," says tournament director Sandra Reichel.

The Rothenbaum will also be the big stage for the German tennis elite. In addition to the two top players Tatjana Maria and Eva Lys, local heroine Ella Seidel and the long-time Billie Jean King Cup playeristep Laura Siegemundwho is celebrating her Hamburg premiere, qualified directly for the main draw. "I'm really looking forward to my home match. I've always really enjoyed it in recent years and I've got a lot planned for this year too. That includes enjoying the atmosphere on centre court and perhaps making the most of it for myself. I really hope that as many fans as possible will be there and I can hardly wait for it to finally start," says Ella Seidel. And Laura Siegemund, who surprisingly stormed into the third round of the Australian Open at the start of the year, is happy to agree with her: "I'd be delighted if it works out that I'm serving at the Rothenbaum in Hamburg for the first time this year. The German tournaments naturally have a special significance and it's always something very special to play in front of a home crowd."

"As we will be awarding one or two wildcards to German players in consultation with the German Tennis Federation, we can already say that we will be the German WTA tournament with the most German players in the main draw. That makes me extremely happy and I hope that the atmosphere on the centre court will inspire the local heroes and that they will be loudly supported by the fans," added Sandra Reichel.

The winners of the past two years, who will be returning to the Rothenbaum, are also looking forward to positive "Hamburg vibes". Title defender Anna Bondar from Hungary and the Dutchwoman Arantxa Ruswho won the tournament in 2023 and reached the final again a year later, have also confirmed their participation.
