The MSC Hamburg Ladies Open has gained another top player! Ekaterina Alexandrova has received a wildcard for the WTA 250 tournament at the Rothenbaum, which will be held from 13 to 20 July.
The big names fear her. She has already beaten world number one Aryna Sabalenka this year. The world number three Jessica Pegula also had to admit defeat to her twice in 2025. Mirra Andreeva, who is ranked 5th in the WTA, also lost to her. Iga Swiatek, the world number four playing for the Wimbledon title this Saturday, had no chance against the 30-year-old in Miami last year. In short: Ekaterina Alexandrova dominates the big wins against the superstars in women's tennis.
Proof of her strong form: She is currently ranked 11th in the race to reach the WTA Finals. With her powerful serve and hard groundstrokes, Alexandrova recently played her way into the last 16 at Wimbledon and is ranked 17th in the WTA rankings. She also reached the round of 16 at the French Open in Paris and showed that she can play for top-level victories on clay.
So there was huge joy on both sides when the right-hander, who was born in Russia and has lived in the Czech Republic since 2006, was given a wild card at the last minute to enter the field of players at the WTA 250s tournament in Hamburg.
Tournament director Sandra Reichel is delighted with the signing of Alexandrova, who will thus receive the last remaining wildcard for the main draw and further enhance the already highly interesting Hamburg professional field. Reichel says: "With Ekatarina Alexandrova, the fans can look forward to an absolute world-class player. It's a highlight to see her play here at the Rothenbaum."
Her game is highly attractive, full of power and will. She has already won the title at the WTA 500 tournament in Linz this season. Alexandrova is therefore the new number one seed at the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open and is highly ambitious going into the event: "I'm very happy to be playing in Hamburg for the first time. I've already heard a lot of good things about the city, the spectacular centre court and the enthusiastic crowd. I'm coming to Hamburg to win this prestigious title."
The main draw on Sunday 13 July at 1 p.m. will reveal which players will stand in her way on the way to her desired triumph.
