“Struffi” celebrates new career high
German Davis Cup player Jan-Lennard Struff has reached a new career-high ranking, cracking the top 30 for the first time on Monday. Struff advanced to the quarterfinals of the Western & Southern Open in New York following victories over Alex de Minaur of Australia, Canadian Denis Shapovalov and top ten player David Goffin from Belgium. The 30-year-old Warstein native fell in the stage of the final eight to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
“This is a huge reward for my hard work in recent months and years,” Struff said during an interview with Sky Sports Germany. The new world no. 29 will compete in next week’s US Open at Flushing Meadows and is looking forward to return to the Hamburg European Open, which will be held on September 19 to 27. Struff is currently third on the alternate list. Last year, Struff made it to the round of 16 at the Rothenbaum tournament for the second time since 2017.
