Defending champion Arantxa Rus and top players from Hamburg at the start
Around four weeks before the start of the tournament, the field of players has now been announced. Last year’s winner Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands is the top seed. She will be challenged by last year’s finalist Noma Noha Akugue from Reinbek and her team-mates from the Club an der Alster Tamara Korpatsch, Eva Lys and Ella Seidel, among others.
The group of top international players at the Rothenbaum also includes Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, who reached the last 16 of the French Open last year, and Egyptian Mayar Sherif. She is regarded as an absolute tennis pioneer in her country and sensationally reached the quarter-finals of the 1000 tournament in Madrid in May. The 2021 Rothenbaum winner Elena-Gabriela Ruse, who beat Andrea Petkovic in the final, will also be competing. A total of 23 players have qualified directly for the main draw. The field will be supplemented by further qualifiers and wildcard players.
